I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My
Spirit on the house of Israel..." (Ezekiel 39:29)
When His fullness comes His face is seen. The
two are interconnected. The Holy Spirit "shall take of mine, and show it unto
you" (John 16:14). The "pure in heart shall see God" (Matthew 5:8). Does that
mean we will actually see Him or that we would "see" Him? There are a variety
of definitions, you know. "He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I
will love him, and manifest myself to him" (John 14:23). The veil is lifted by
the Spirit. Paul called it "the communion of the Holy Ghost" (2 Corinthians
13:14), koinonia, fellowship. Jehovah spoke face-to-face with Moses. Old
Testament high priests had access to what Tommy Tenney calls "the Face
Place" inside the Holy of Holies. We now have access to God by the Spirit
(Ephesians 2:18). No need for shyness. Draw near. Look, listen, behold,
believe, be transformed.
Today's text has eschatological placement amid
the coming time of Israel's tribulation. Verse 21 to the chapter's end
prophesies the return of Israelites from the nations back into their homeland.
The little nation was reborn May 14th, 1948, sixty years ago last
week. We have seen the restoration and along with it Israel's legitimate fears.
Iran is making threats of nuclear holocaust. Hezbollah attacks from the
north, Hamas from the south. Against near insurmountable odds, the nation has
fought for survival this whole time. Imagine where she would be were the
Nation's eyes opened to her true Messiah!
Chapters 38 and 39 predict a mass ambush, what
appears a coalition of nations, Russia, Iran, Libya and others, coming to "take
a spoil" from Israel. Reading those chapters it becomes clear that limited
nuclear exchanges are on the way in the near future. But amid the mushroom
clouds comes the greater cloud of God's glory. "I will pour out of my Spirit
upon all flesh" (Acts 2:17). Soon that outpouring will cover Israel,
perhaps in greater measure than any other nation. Spiritual eyes that have been
veiled since Calvary will be opened to the revelation of Jesus. Millions will
be saved. What began in the Upper Room in Jerusalem will come full circle
before the end. Never will He hide His face again. He will stand up for Israel
as the God of battle. It will take seven years to clean up the radiation from
that single skirmish with the northern powers (Ezekiel 39:9).
You and I have access to that same omnipotent
Protector. We have His Spirit and with Him, access to the face of God. "If my
people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and
seek my face..." (2 Chronicles 7:14) I don't need His hand, His lap, His ear or
His blessings; I need His face. That symbolizes His direction, His mood, His
visage, His intention, His pleasure or lack thereof. Get His fullness, you'll
have His face, and with that, His mighty force.
