ME CHECK MY SCHEDULE...
also bearing them witness, with signs..." (Hebrews 2:4)
A couple days back we talked about little
coincidences, God-Winks, as one author calls them. The interesting thing
about coincidences is the more you pray the more they happen...hmm. I could tell
a thousand stories about scheduling meetings. I know some evangelists are
booked ahead for ten years but that's not my situation. Sometimes I'm sitting
high and dry (pardon the hint, pastors). Anyway, God always comes through. I
was a little aggravated last February. The phone wasn't ringing. No one seemed
interested. I flipped on the tube and Jesse Duplantis kind of bragged that he
never had to call anyone, he just commanded the phone to ring and someone would
always call and schedule him to speak. I had been praying for open doors. "Why
not?" I thought. "If God loves Jesse He also loves Kris". "In the name of
Jesus, phone, I command you to ring!" Guess what? Nothing happened. How foolish
to think that it would. I knelt back down for about five minutes of prayer,
then, ring-a-ling. Under my breath I mumbled, "Probably for Deb". "Hey
Kris, the speaker from Ohio I had scheduled for next Sunday just called and
felt he needed to cancel. Just thought of you, could you come up next Sunday?"
I answered, "Hmm, let me check my schedule. Why, brother, I just happen to have
Sunday open". We had ten straight nights of great meetings and got to network
with several other Metro-pastors in the process. God controls the calendar.
Now, the phone may ring right when Jesse commands it to, but for me, I had to
wait five minutes, so the guy in Ohio could call Kansas City then the K.C.
pastor could look up my phone number and make my connection. Just a
coincidence; I know.
A couple months later a big church in Denver
had to cancel. I'm left high and dry again, looked over at the phone and voiced
a little "please". An India born pastor called wondering if I might have next
Sunday open for a conference in Tulsa. "Let me check my schedule. Ooh, I just
happen to have that open..." As a result of that meeting conference hosts have
called me to preach for India church conferences in OK City and Dallas and
later Orlando. Just a coincidence that the other church should cancel, I know.
Testimonies take so much space to write but let
me give you a third story. When I decided to go on a mission trip to Jordan
last fall it dawned on me that I had no services after my return on Nov. 27th
and Dec. 4th going into Christmas downtime. Paying for a trip across
the Atlantic then not having services upon returning would be financially
unfeasible. But ten minutes after committing to go on the mission trip the cell
phone rang, "Kris, I know this a little late notice, but would you happen to
have Nov. 27th and Dec. 4th open. I need you both
Sundays". Of course my comeback was, "Uh, let me check my schedule first. Hmm,
brother, I just happen to have both those Sundays open. Pencil me in". I could
tell dozens of those little stories, just coincidences, I know. How did the two
Sundays turn out? Besides having fantastic moves of the Spirit of God, our
ministry received the largest single Sunday offerings ever. Coincidence? I take
a step of faith and God breaks through with the funds in less than ten minutes,
the time it takes for a pastor to look up my phone number and make a call. Ah,
it's a blast living hand to mouth...but the great thing about it is that it is
from His hand to my mouth! Just a minute; I think the phone is going to ring
again. "Oh, so you want to know if I have Thanksgiving weekend open...let me
check my schedule".
